THE PROBLEM

To create a synthetic stopper that reproduces the behaviour of an excellent cork stopper, avoiding on the other hand the well known problems.
THE IDEA
For the first time the "controlled micro-oxygenation" concept is investigated at the stage of wine refinement.
THE SOLUTION
To insert inside a synthetic stopper a special membrane that lets the stopper “breathe” like a cork stopper.

2001
The request of international trademark for the stopper system KORKED™ is registered (inventor Mr. Marco Musaragno), of which Korked S.r.l. is the owner and exclusive worldwide manufacturer since 2003.
The Patent Cooperation Treaty confirms the feasibility of KORKED™ stopper system, recognizing the existence of the maximum foreseen requirements:
1) Innovation;
2) Inventive level;
3) Industrial application.
The first non experimental wine bottling
takes place in cellars using the KORKED™ stopper system.

2003
The University of Udine, Department of Food Science, directed by Prof. Zironi starts the scientific experimentation and the lab tests on the active stopper system KORKED™. The first results confirm that through the controlled micro-oxygenation in the bottle by means of the KORKED™ active stopper system, a wine with equal characteristics to those found using a cork stopper is obtained.
During the ENOFORUM convention in 2003, the scientific team lead by Prof. Zironi and Prof. Battistuta show for the first time the results, which refer to the researches and tests carried out in the previous two years.
The KORKED™stopper system is defined as the invention that will revolutionize the oenological world.

2004
After more than 20.000 tests on bottled wine using the KORKEDstopper system, the industrial production starts.
KORKED srl completes the construction of its internal research department and test lab, in addition the production process achieves advanced technical levels, in order to grant the highest quality standards.

2005
Years given to research and thousands of samples and tests let the company develop KORKED™ PRO, thestopper with excellent performances, similar to those of an excellent cork stopper!
The “controlled micro-oxygenation” achieved using the last generation membrane, allows the excellent refinement of the wine in the bottle, keeping steady its organoleptic qualities.

It has been the first company to conceive that it was not enough to imitate the cork stopper from the esthetical point of view to achieve the same performances. It was the first one to introduce the concept of controlled micro-oxygenation to the marketplace, transforming a simple synthetic cork into a stopper with high technology and for high performances.
KORKED srl takes advantage, in Italy, of the research structure of University ofUdine, Department of Food Science, equipped with the most advanced instruments for extraction test, premature aging test and resistance to temperature changes test. They also carry out experimentations and analysis on bottled wine samples, systematic tests on compression and analysis on weight and internal cell structure constancy for the KORKEDstopper system.
